Nebraska Crossroads Music Festival Artistic Director Erik Higgins grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where he started playing double bass in the Lincoln Public Schools strings program. At the age of 14 he joined Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, where he played for four seasons before moving away to attend Indiana University School of Music.
Higgins studied at the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, Germany, and has held positions in the Hamburg State Opera, A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra in Boston, and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Aarhus Denmark, his current position. An avid early music specialist as well, he has been a regularly performing member with the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston, Concerto Copenhagen in Denmark, and many other period ensembles in addition to other pop, folk and world music projects.
